Description:<\/strong> In April of 1924, the Consular Tariff Law\u00a0(Konsularinio tarifo \u012fstatymas) was published in\u00a0the Lithuanian government record Vyriausyb\u0117s\u00a0\u017dinios<\/em> and announced as having been in effect\u00a0since April 13, 1923. In addition to providing a\u00a0schedule of fees to be used for various consular services, the law granted the Ministry of Foreign\u00a0Affairs permission to use stamps to create\u00a0accountability for the money collected.<\/p>\n

The large stamps, with the inscription\u00a0“Konsularinio Mokesnio \u017denklas” initially came\u00a0in five values (2, 3, 5, 10 and 25 Litas). In 1928,\u00a0additional smaller stamps (the second consular\u00a0issue) with the same inscription were issued\u00a0in values of 5 and 10 Litas, but the first issue\u00a0stamps continued to be used until at least 1939.<\/p>\n

The exhibit begins with aspects of production that can be inferred from the stamps themselves (paper, gum, plate varieties, printing sheets) and then examines usage of the stamps, organized by their description in the Consular Tariff Act (passports and extensions, visas, testimonies, money and valuables, legalization, signature validation, and extracts, transcripts, and translations).<\/p>\n
