DAUMANTAS KIULKYS / THE LITHUANIAN SEA MUSEUM

Ship Mail and Lithuania

One Frame Exhibit

Description:

Since ancient times, letters have travelled not only by land but also by water. For geographical reasons, ship mail did not play an important role in Lithuania. However, mail sent from sea-going ships travelled to Lithuania, and steamships equipped with letterboxes sailed in the Curonian Lagoon. The Lithuanian Sea Museum has a small but interesting collection of postal history objects that travelled by ship. The exhibit presents 16 ship mail objects.
